Filing a claim for the $725 million Facebook settlement? This way you can find your username and other necessary information

facebook

You may be eligible for payment as part of a $725 million class-action settlement against Facebook's parent company, Meta. But time is running out to make a claim - and information is needed. The settlement with Facebook's parent company, Meta Platforms Inc., followed a lawsuit alleging that Facebook provided user information to third parties without their permission and that the platform failed to control or enforce third-party access to the information it obtained. This includes the collection of data by the now-defunct political consultancy Cambridge Analytica, which was used for political advertising on the platform. Eligible users can apply until August 25, 2023. For those unsure of their eligibility, the eligibility requirements changed this summer before that deadline. Mediation guidelines have been expanded to include even more users. But how much you get and what you need to make an ad depends on a number of factors. Here's what you need to know.

Who has the right to file a claim?

Anyone who used Facebook in the United States at any time between May 24, 2007 and December 22, 2022 is eligible to file a complaint. According to the latest update, people who had Facebook accounts during the class phase of the lawsuit that have now been deleted can also file a lawsuit. In the email sent to Facebook accounts, it was stated that the change concerns people who deleted one or more Facebook accounts before creating a new Facebook account during the course period 24.05.2007 and 22.12.2022. in the same period.

How to make a request?

Individuals hoping to receive payment as part of the class action can file a claim here anytime until August 25, 2023. Individuals making a claim for a deleted account are asked to: Go to the settlement website Click "Submit Request". To edit a claim, click the link at the top of the page ("Have you submitted a claim? Click here to edit a claim"). Enter the notification ID and verification code at the top of the notification to view and edit the claim. In the "About" section of the form, go to the third question ("Are you applying from a working account, a deleted account, or a combination of these?) Choose from the following options: "Current Accounts", "Deleted Accounts" or "Both Current and Deleted Accounts". Enter the required information about your account.

What do I need to make an ad?

In addition to some personal information and preferred payment method, group activity members are asked to provide their Facebook username, as well as phone numbers and email addresses associated with the account. How to find your Facebook username You can find the correct Facebook username by logging into your Facebook account and then going to "Account" > "Settings & Privacy" > "General Account Settings" > "Username".

How much money will I receive as payment?

The size of each individual payment ultimately depends on how long each person has been a Facebook user and how many users file complaints early, the report's manager says. Administrative and legal fees are initially deducted from the total to form a "net settlement fund" from which disbursements are made. The amount each applicant receives is then determined by the duration of Facebook use and the total number of applicants. Each eligible applicant will be awarded "one point for each month" they had an activated Facebook account during that period. Once the total number of applicants and their points are determined along with the total amount of the settlement fund, each person receives a fixed amount multiplied by their total points. You know the deadlines Those who do not file a claim, refuse or oppose the settlement are automatically a party to the settlement, but are not entitled to payment if no claim is filed. The deadline to submit a claim is August 25, 2023. A settlement hearing is scheduled for September 7, 2023 at 11:00 am. CDT.
