Short video messages can now be sent in WhatsApp chat, Meta announced on Thursday.
Video messages can last up to 60 seconds and are protected by full encryption.
"Video messaging is a real-time way to respond to conversations, whatever you want to say and show within 60 seconds," Meta said in a post introducing the new feature. "We believe it's a fun way to share moments with all the emotions a video can bring, whether it's a birthday wish, a laugh at a joke or good news."
To send a video message on WhatsApp, switch to video mode, then press and hold to record a video. You can use the hands-free features by swiping up to lock and record the video.
When you receive a video message in a WhatsApp chat, it will automatically play on silent until you tap the screen to start playing.
Meta said that the rollout of the video messaging feature has already started and will be available to everyone in the coming weeks, so be patient if you don't see it yet.
The latest update comes just a few months after WhatsApp added another feature that allows users to edit messages. The much-coveted feature means you can quickly fix an annoying typo or reformat something to make it read better, even if it has to be done within 15 minutes of hitting the send button.
Before that, the only way to edit a WhatsApp message was to go through the rather tedious delete process before rewriting and sending.
